An Easy Way to Find the Right Attorney for YOU
The easiest way to find the best attorney for you is to interview an attorney that you know or that you know practices in the area of law that fits your case and ask him or her who is also good in that area of the law. If they practice a lot in this area of the law they will know all of the "players" and will be willing to tell you with confidence who else does this type of work. If they are truly secure in their abilities compared to everyone else they will freely give you the names of their competition. If you like this attorney who is freely giving you this information and they are knowledgeable and capable in your area of the law, you should probably hire them. If they refuse to give you the name of any attorney in competition with them or they won't talk in "plain English" about the law for your case then you should probably go to another lawyer.
How do you know a lawyer is knowledgeable about the law that applies to your case? If your lawyer can explain all of your rights on your case and answer all of your questions so that you have a basic understanding of your options, then you know you have found a knowledgeable lawyer. For instance, a lawyer should be able to tell you what will happen to your case or about the following subjects on your case in a way that YOU will understand it:
1. What are your Time Limitations for your case called Statue of Limitations.
2. What are your range of case options from how it gets settled to how it could be litigated in court and when, in general terms, these options will happen in your case depending on your choices.
3. Who are the best experts and the bad experts for your case and when you do or don't need an expert for your case. (Knowing who the good doctors are in a workers compensation case and who you should stay away from is a vital bit of information your lawyer should know or have a good grasp on)
4. How does the attorney -client contract work.
5. Depending on whether you are seeing an attorney early after an accident or after you have completed your treatment, a lawyer should be able to give you a range of value your case would have and give you an understanding on what things could enhance that value and what things could make that case value a zero.
6. When will you see certain lawyer action taken in your case and give a range of time for that action as well as reasons why that action could be sooner or later or even never.
7. What are the Judges or Juries doing with cases like yours and the lawyers experience with similar cases? Further, what are the most important factors to a positive outcome for your case with Judges, Juries or the Insurance Company and what can you do to help get that positive outcome?
If your lawyer can discuss all seven of these areas of your case with clarity and confidence and not talk down to you, then you have found a knowledgeable attorney and if you like this attorney and they appear to have a good reputation in the community, then you have found the attorney for YOU.
